The Variotop® cabrio retracting roof is a feature unique to Linssen motor yachts, developed over many years.
It is technically ingenious – the boat’s upper deck helm – the ‘fly-bridge’ steering position – has an electrically operated, insulated and weather-sealed, canopy that folds back into the bridge arch. The mechanism is tried and tested, robust and reliable. Set within the arch is a glazed screen with fully opening doors. With the cabrio and doors open, the entire upper deck – the bridge and the aft deck behind – becomes one large external space open to the sky and the surroundings. When closed, the bridge is completely protected from the elements, an elevated internal space that is part of the boat’s saloon environment.
If that describes the practical operation, what is more significant is how the boat’s occupants benefit from the arrangement.
The boat’s captain gets a superb raised position to navigate the boat from, complete with all instrumentation and controls. This steering position can be adjusted in height such that they can see over the windscreen (when the cabrio is open) or through it (when the cabrio is closed). Ranged around the helm is comfortable seating and family and friends too, get fabulous views out across the water through the surrounding windows.
This beautiful, commanding and totally relaxing, space is directly connected, through the screen and doors, to the aft sun deck behind and it is also completely open to, a part of, the rest of the boat’s interior spaces at the level below.
At the touch of a button what was insulated, protected and enclosed becomes open to the sun, the breeze and the outside world. The boat gets a huge combined sun deck and the boat’s occupants get even greater freedom to relax and enjoy.
